The Army Medical Specialist Corps
One of the many opportunities available within the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Training Programs after Cadets receive their Bachelors Degree is The Army Medical Specialist Corps. The four groups of professionals comprising The Army Medical Specialist Corps are: Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Registered Dietitians (RD) and Physician Assistants (PA).
Health care recruiters focus recruiting efforts at accredited colleges and universities where the specialties are trained. These Active Duty Specialist Corps Student Programs are briefly explained below (for more complete information contact https://www/amsc.amedd.army.mil ):
Occupational Therapy Field Work Experience
The Army OT Fieldwork program has been discontinued. The only way for a cadet to enter AD as an OT is to obtain an Educational Delay to complete an OT degree program or already be enrolled in an OT program at the time of contracting for ROTC.
U.S. Army – Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy (http:// www.baylor.edu/graduate/pt/splash.php)
Provides a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or be in last semester of undergrad school to apply to the 27-month training program
Active duty obligation is 81 months (including the program)
Additional prerequisites: minimum GPA of 3.1; minimum GRE score of 1000; minimum verbal score of 450
Army Dietetic Internship/Graduate Program in Nutrition (http:// www.baylor.edu/graduate/nutrition/splash.php)
Provides a Master's Degree in Nutrition
Eleven month didactic/research master's degree curriculum at AMEDD Center and School and nine months dietetic internship at an Army Medical Center
Applicants must have completed or be in last semester of dietetic academic work
Active duty obligation is six years, including internship and program
Additional prerequisites: minimum GPA of 3.0; minimum GRE of 1000; GRE writing score of 3.5
Interservice Physician Assistant Program
Provides a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies
Two year training program (1-yr didactic, 1-yr clinical) towards appointment as a 1st LT
Commissioned officers are reappointed as SP Officers prior to starting the program
Active duty obligation is four years after graduation (see www.usarec.army.mil/armypa )
Active Duty Specialist Corps Incentives:
Health Professions Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP) – Is available to direct accession AMEDD applicants (Cadets are not eligible). It will repay up to $30,651 of qualified education loans annually for a maximum of three years. Active duty obligation is one year for each year receiving loan repayment with a minimum period of three years on active duty.
Special Pay – Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Physician Assistants are entitled to non-Physician Health Care Provider Board Certification Pay. Specific qualifications apply.
Note: All information applies to AMEDD applicants. Currently, there is no coop program for ROTC Cadets that guarantees placement into an AMEDD program. Cadets must apply and be accepted. ADSO incurred for participation in a training program will be added to ROTC ADSO.

The Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) is located at the AMEDD Center and School at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Information on the program is at located at www.usarec.army.mil/armypa .

The Army Medical Corps contains over 40 specialties, including internal medicine, neurosurgery, pathology, anesthesiology and psychiatry. As a physician and officer, you will be trained as a leader with opportunities in medical research.
